Learning Over

I promise I will learn of thee in truth,
Since truth is found in friendship's deed and love,
And not the saccharin of lies and sooth.
For love is emblem of the truth above,
And deed the hallmark of the truth on Earth,
So often vainly sought but seldom found;
Existing not in surfeit but in dearth,
And still our only chain to Heav'n bound.
But thou art worth the search, my love, my dear,
For truth in thee will be the truth in me,
So I shall seek with strength and without fear,
And what we find as truth shall set us free;
So that in freedom, we'll be one and whole,
And, God willing, we will be one in soul.
